They're strongest when they're first installed and tend to degrade over time, and they may accelerate erosion of adjacent shorelands. Mild erosion sites such as the one pictured here may be more appropriately planted with native vegetation. The plants would provide adequate erosion control and many other opportunities and benefits along the shoreland.
